What is cPanel?

cPanel is a control panel that lets you manage your website through the site. When you sign up for a hosting account with a hosting provider that uses cPanel, you will receive your cpanel address and a login and password for access. Most of the time, you can access your cPanel account by typing your domain name and / cPanel. For example, www.domainname.com / cPanel. From this page you will be prompted for your user ID and password. Please keep in mind that this will not work until you have your domain set up to point to the nameservers of your host. Your host will usually give you a different web address to reach your panel C, while you're waiting for the domain to propagate (essentially an elegant way to say point to the host right). From the inside panel C, you can do all sorts of things like configure your e-mail, backup your website files, FTP files to your hosting account and even view your web traffic statistics. If you are planning to install any kind of scripts on your site, you'll probably need to connect to cPanel (or allow access to your cPanel account programmer for you). cPanel comes with Fantastico which often allows you to set up a system of content management (and many other popular graphical component) for free with just a few clicks. This is a huge time saver that any script in Fantastico can be installed without needing advanced knowledge of setting up scripts. So learn your cPanel and Web site design and hosting set-up will be much easier.
